If you’re curious as to why this website exists, this is a great place to start!
No amount of deep breaths could make me feel any more comfortable about doing this, but if we don’t do things that are outside of our comfort zone, how can we ever grow? In this first post, I think it’s best to establish my reasons for starting this blog, just to give some insight into what I plan to do with it. I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing of any kind and I finally decided it was time to have a space that I can fill with pieces about what I’m thinking or the literary things I’m loving or hating. Having said that there are three main reasons I wanted to do this that are as follows:
Overcoming My Fears
My first reason for starting a blog would be the fact that I’ve wanted to do this for a long time and I promised myself that this would be the year I’d stop putting things off. In the past I’ve let a lot of things get in my way, like not having a name for the blog, convincing myself I wouldn’t have time to produce content for it, stupidly caring what other people would think. Thankfully, I’ve somehow managed to get past these roadblocks and here we are!
Flexing My Writing Muscles
Like many people I’ve had a complicated relationship with writing, both creative and otherwise. After the initial fun-loving inspiration of youth, worrying too much about whether or not I was actually good at writing got in the way of being able to write as frequently as I once had (which was every single day). If I allow myself to write more often, I can only imagine it will help me fulfil the desire to “get better” at it.
For the Love of Writing
It felt natural and fun when I used to write and whilst it still feels mostly natural, I cannot wait to indulge myself in it again. For the past seven years (wow), most of the writing I’ve done has been to get a grade in some way or another, even if it was creative. I’m excited that I’m finally ready to write for myself again.
I’m not going to put too many restrictions on what I’m going to be writing here, just in case my opinions and tastes change over time, but you can definitely expect reviews, comment pieces and potentially even some fiction or poetry too. Hopefully, this will be the first post of many! Who knows? Maybe I’ll even be able to rope some of my friends into posting something on here too. Thanks for reading!
